Seasonal Response of Daphnia pulex to Cyanobacterial Extracts at Different Temperatures in Valle de Bravo Reservoir (Mexico)

چکیده
Valle de Bravo reservoir supplies drinking water to 40% of Mexico City. Here we present data on the population growth and life-table demography cladoceran Daphnia pulex, cultured at temperatures 20 °C 25 with different concentrations crude extracts from blooms Microcystis aeruginosa, collected in January, Woronichinia naegeliana, September. We hypothesized that pulex would be more sensitive higher temperature toxins W. naegeliana as these have been shown toxic rotifers. extracted conducted acute toxicity tests eight microcystins °C. The LC50 was 26.8 µg/L 11.5 µg/L, respectively, for samples. chronic included studies 5 10% concentration, Four replicates each three treatments, which consisted treatments low high cyanotoxin levels a control without cyanotoxins, were set up. rate ranged 0.18 0.42 d−1 M. aeruginosa (January) 0.2 0.31 naegeliana. Daphnia, being better adapted cooler temperatures, adversely affected than adverse effect cyanobacterial greater blooms. tolerance cyanotoxins depends bloom-forming species temperature.

Seasonal changes in the rotifer (Rotifera) diversity from a tropical high altitude reservoir (Valle de Bravo, Mexico).
We studied the zooplankton community composition at different depths (2, 4, 8, 12 and 20 m) of Valle de Bravo, a drinking water reservoirin central Mexico during December 2005 to November 2006. Temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH and chlorophyll a were measured simultaneously. While physicochemical values were similar to those found in previous studies, total zooplankton abundance was higher (mea...
متن کاملEye movements in Daphnia pulex (De Geer).
1. The various types of eye movement exhibited by the cyclopean eye of Daphnia pulex were studied using high speed motion photography. 2. This rudimentary eye, which consists of only 22 ommatidia, can move through approximately 150 degrees in the sagittal plane and 60 degrees in the horizontal plane. 3. Four classes of eye movement were found: (1) a high speed tremor at 16 Hz with an amplitude ...
متن کاملPopulation Genomics of Daphnia pulex.
Using data from 83 isolates from a single population, the population genomics of the microcrustacean Daphnia pulex are described and compared to current knowledge for the only other well-studied invertebrate, Drosophila melanogaster These two species are quite similar with respect to effective population sizes and mutation rates, although some features of recombination appear to be different, w...
متن کاملControlling proteome degradation in Daphnia pulex.
An attempted proteomic study of Daphnia pulex response to sodium chloride exposure revealed an unexpected result: very strong proteome degradation previously observed in D. pulex is halted when animals have been exposed to elevated salinity prior to protein extraction. Further characterization of conditions controlling proteome degradation shows that the proteolytic factor(s) is/are present in ...
متن کاملAutoregulation of Blood Flow: Vessel Diameter Changes in Response to Different Temperatures
Background: Autoregulation of blood flow is a marvelous phenomenon balanc- ing blood supply and tissue demand. Although many chemically-based explanations for this phenomenon have been proposed and some of them are commonly used today, biomechanical aspects of this phenomenon was neglected. The biomechanical aspect provides insights to us to model vessel diameter changes more precisely and comp...
